When you decide to list your aircraft for sale, how do you know where the best place to market it is? 20 years ago, you would call up the print publication magazine and tell them what you want to say in your ad, and for a pretty penny more, you could add a small photo of your airplane. Buyers would have to use their imagination to figure out what your airplane looks like and the features it may have. Most print publications only allow a few small lines of text that contain short abbreviations. This leaves many buyers confused as to what all these abbreviations may mean.
Luckily, those days are now behind us and we have the Internet. For around the same price as those old print ads, you can list your aircraft online with much more detail. On most sites, you can list multiple photos so that you can show potential buyers what the interior of your aircraft looks like, including pictures of the panel. You can take close up pictures of anything special you want buyers to see. When listing your aircraft for sale online, the text that you can write is almost limitless. You can list all the avionics, equipment, special features, when the last maintenance was done and when the next is due, pretty much anything you can think. On some websites, you can also add documents such as copies of your aircraft’s logbook. Some websites even offer video uploads. So if you want to video a walk around of your aircraft or showoff your airplane taking off, you can now do that.
So how do you decide which websites you should list your aircraft on? When considering websites, you want to make sure that they get plenty of traffic (buyers) and that they have features that are easy to use. Go to the site with the mind frame of a buyer, and make sure the site is easy to use and functions well. Check out the features they offer for both buyers and sellers, and of course, look at price. Pricing should be the last factor behind all of the previous things mentioned. After all, if a site doesn’t get much traffic, it doesn’t matter how good of a deal the price seemed.
So how do you find out which websites are the most popular? It’s actually easier than you may think. Go to a search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) and type in some broad search terms that aircraft buyers would use. Terms such as “Used Aircraft,” “Aircraft For Sale,” “Used Airplanes” are a few of the most popular. The top three websites for those search terms are probably going to be your best bet. Check out those websites and see what they have to offer. Finally, look at their domain name and make sure it’s something users can easily remember, so that they are sure to come back again.
